Expert witness and court attendance
Independent expert evidence that stands up in court
We act as expert witnesses in civil, commercial and family proceedings, instructed by one party or as a single joint expert. Our reports are prepared in line with an expert’s overriding duty to the court under Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules and Part 25 of the Family Procedure Rules, and we attend court, tribunals and mediations to give evidence and answer questions on our findings.
Solicitors can instruct us directly. Tell us the issues, the timetable and any court deadlines, and we will confirm our availability, scope and fee in writing.
Fraud and financial irregularities
If you suspect money is going missing, we analyse bank statements, ledgers and payment records to establish what happened, how much was taken and by whom, and how the controls were bypassed. Our findings are set out in a report that you, your solicitor, your insurer or the police can rely on, with recommendations to stop it happening again.
Shareholder and partnership disputes
When business owners fall out, the figures are often at the centre of it. We review the accounts, director’s loan accounts, remuneration and related-party transactions, establish what each party is properly entitled to and value shareholdings and partnership interests on a clear, reasoned basis.
Divorce and family finances
Where a business or complex finances are involved in a separation, we value business interests, assess the income that is realistically available, identify the tax that would arise on a transfer or sale and trace assets that may not have been fully disclosed.
Loss of profits and insurance claims
We quantify losses from business interruption, breach of contract, professional negligence and other events, preparing claims that insurers and the other side can follow, or reviewing claims made against you.
Loss of earnings
For personal injury and employment claims, we calculate past and future loss of earnings for employees, the self-employed and company directors, including the effect on pensions and benefits.
Reconstructing incomplete records
Where records are missing or unreliable, we rebuild income and expenditure from bank statements, third-party information and other evidence. This is often essential in an HMRC investigation, where a credible reconstruction can be the difference between HMRC’s estimate and the correct figure.
Expert witness reports and court attendance
Where a matter is in, or heading to, litigation, we prepare independent expert reports on the financial issues, including fraud and loss, business and share valuations, income available in family proceedings, and loss of profits and earnings. We take part in experts’ meetings, prepare joint statements, answer written questions from the other side, and attend court to give oral evidence.

What is forensic accounting?
Forensic accounting is the investigation and analysis of financial records to answer a specific question, such as whether money has been misappropriated, what a business is worth or what a loss amounts to, presented in a way that can be relied on in a dispute.
Who do you act for?
Business owners, individuals, and solicitors and other advisers acting for their clients.
Can you work with my solicitor?
Yes. We work alongside legal advisers and can take instructions directly from your solicitor.
Can you act as an expert witness?
Yes. We prepare expert reports in civil, commercial and family proceedings, as a party-appointed or single joint expert, and attend court to give evidence. Our duty as an expert is to the court, so our opinion is independent of whoever instructs us.
How much does forensic accounting cost?
Every case is different, so we quote individually once we understand the scope, and confirm the fee in writing before work begins.
