Self Assessment
Self Assessment tax returns, done properly
We prepare and file your personal tax return, claim what you are entitled to and tell you exactly what to pay and when.
Who we prepare returns for
- Sole traders and the self-employed
- Company directors with dividends or other income
- Landlords with rental income
- Partners in a partnership
- Individuals with capital gains, foreign income or high income
Key dates
Online tax returns are due by 31 January after the end of the tax year, which is also when any balance of tax is payable. If you pay through payments on account, the first is due on 31 January and the second on 31 July. Paper returns are due by 31 October.
Getting ready for Making Tax Digital
If you are a sole trader or landlord, your income may now bring you into Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, which replaces a single annual return with quarterly updates and a final declaration. We will tell you whether it applies and handle it for you.

When is the Self Assessment deadline?
The online deadline is 31 January following the end of the tax year on 5 April. Paper returns must be filed by 31 October.
What are payments on account?
If your tax bill is over the HMRC limit, you pay towards next year’s bill in two instalments on 31 January and 31 July. We work these out and can apply to reduce them if your income has fallen.
I am a company director. Do I need a tax return?
Many directors do, particularly if they receive dividends or other untaxed income. We check this as part of your limited company service.
