Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, handled for you

Since 6 April 2026, many sole traders and landlords must keep digital records and send HMRC quarterly updates. We do it for you.

Who it applies to

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies to sole traders and landlords based on their qualifying income, which is their turnover from self-employment and gross rents from property, before expenses.

  • From 6 April 2026: qualifying income over £50,000, based on your 2024/25 tax return
  • From 6 April 2027: qualifying income over £30,000, based on your 2025/26 tax return
  • From 6 April 2028: qualifying income over £20,000, based on your 2026/27 tax return

Employment income, pensions, dividends, savings and partnership income do not count towards the threshold.

What changes

  • You keep your business and property records digitally in compatible software
  • You send HMRC a summary update every quarter
  • You submit a final tax return by 31 January after the tax year ends

What counts as qualifying income?

Your gross income from self-employment and property, before expenses. If you have both, they are added together.

When are quarterly updates due?

Updates for standard quarters are due by 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May. We file them for you.

I am a limited company director. Does MTD for Income Tax apply?

Not to your company. It applies to self-employment and property income held personally. VAT-registered companies already follow Making Tax Digital for VAT.
